Subject: Gym projection options

1) there are a number of dealers from which a unit can be rented - example https://rentalprojectors.com/windsor-projector-rentals-co/ - would the District have equipment that could be rented?

2) Purchase a setup from the gym. This may be sticker shock but this the cost for what would be the ideal (there are actually two options intermixed but generally for a really large screen and high lumens it's $10k -$12k range to buy it. Don't think this makes sense. You could also rent a big inflatable setup like you see for movie nights (and it comes with technical support where they set it up, manage sound system everything) for a few hundred dollars an event. My vote would be for something like that.

Subject: CIPA Reuirements

Here's the response from the CDE ERATE resource

Here's the response from the CDE Erate coordinator

1) If a school District gets ERATE discounts but within the District there’s a Charter school that does not, does that Charter school still need to be CIPA compliant? They are technically part of the District but managed by different sources…i.e. parents. I’m wondering if the Charter School isn’t CIPA compliant if that puts the actual District ERATE funds in jeopardy?

Colorado adopted the Children’s Internet Protection Act this year as the technology protection measure for all schools, charter schools and public libraries. The charter must be in compliance with CIPA in accordance with state law. If the charter school is not listed on the form 471 Block 4 then USAC has no jurisdiction over that school and that would not affect the districts application.

2) I’ve looked at the CIP filtering requirements and that are pretty loose. I have people saying if you implement the free version of openDNS that you’re fine and should be considered CIPA compliant. I contacted openDNS and they said you had to have their paid version. DO you know if by using the no charge version of OPENDNS if you are actually CIPA compliant?

To be compliant with CIPA, the school must have a technology protection measure, an acceptable use policy, and have had an open meeting discussing the acceptable use policy. The Act does not define what the technology protection measure is or how it works to protect the technology. As long as there is something in place to block harmful content from minors, that will work. It does not matter if it’s free.

3) Finally, if the Charter school doesn’t get ERATE funds there technically isn’t any other driver to have to be CIPA Compliant correct (other than filtering is still good practice)?

No, there is state law that requires all schools and libraries to be compliant with CIPA. See C.R.S. 22-87-102.

Subject: How can we stablize funding and other ideas for tech related recruiting

No progress can be made unless a fairy stable funding resource to the tune of about $80k/year can be identified. That should be the highest priority, to figure out how to provide core, basic funding.

Regarding tech ideas to help with recruiting, can course from CISCO academy or opportunities for A+ type certification be considered for the curriculum for middle schoolers. Basic networking, other?
