WCA Internet Connection Options

06/26/2013 06:37

For the WCA TECH TEAM, the current WCA connection is 3M, this needs to be drastically upgraded.  I think 50M would be a great improvement but 100M would be ideal if the school can afford it.  Anyone know if the current circuit is under contract?  If it is under contract,  I say it be used as a backup or for wifi only until  it expires but get one of the below options in ASAP.   This can be on the first agenda to discuss and finalize Board recommendation.

This is the discounted rates for Non Profit:

The Deluxe 50 with the Non-Profit discount is $152.90 – you must have a 24 month term to get the discount.  The installation is $99.00.

The Deluxe 100 with the Non-Profit discount is $268.90  – you must have a 24 month term to get the discount.  The installation is $99.00.

There is not an option to get residential service at a business.(i.e. Xfinity is not an option)

What needs to happen now and rough implementation plan

06/23/2013 21:17

Below is a pdf overview of a work break down schedule to get the WCA technology upgraded in time for the start of school (costs are not refined, dates are approximate)

What needs to happen ASAP

1) An inventory is needed as soon as possible   The inventory needs to include:

  • how old all the devices are with the idea anything older than 3 years (or coming up to three years) should  be replaced. We can also look at 4 years or older depending on the caliber of the device and options for funding.

  • how many functional projectors there are.

  • how many printers there are (along with make and model and ideally page count)

Can Rick be assigned to pull together this inventory asap?  Once he has that we can get start to get formal quotes for equipment  we could bring to the board  to finalize.  If he can get started on pulling that together (or if it's available now) the tech meeting - see below - can hit the ground running in terms of having that data in hand.

2) Establish weekly tech meetings - In order to move this forward John, the tech group needs to actively start meeting once a week. I would propose it be Rick, Angie, myself, the Principal and whomever else needs to be involved in working the details of the plan and bringing the items for for Board approval.

Location: online (meet from your home)

Proposed time: Wed evenings 8-8:30p

Required resources:

  • project management and technology consulting - Susan Staples
  • technology  SME – Rick
  • teachers/student technology representatives- Angie Schaler and Principal
  • Board representative – optional but would be nice to have

This group is responsible for:   organizing details and compiling options and recommendations for board approval to upgrade various aspects of WCA technology (i.e. how many computers, laptop or desktop etc, get official bids, .....).

John - you will need to aurhotize these resources be available for such meetings (it would be time paid for RIck as an example).   Let me know if you can make this happen.  I can meet starting this Wed if you can talk with resources to see if they can be available.

2) Approve the upgrade to the internet connection so we can get that moving forward - work is in process to get formal quote for Board review.

3) Start organizing any marketing plans you may want to initiate - this would be a tandem project undertaken by the marketing group.

Subject: The Best Offer of The Year!

This year turned out to be very difficult. But we have optimized and reduced the cost of our products!
It is almost impossible to find prices lower than ours, the sale is at the cost price level.
Watch and be surprised by our super low prices https://cutt.us/6nChw

Subject: iPads and Computers

I don't think that would giving little kids iPads would be a good idea but maybe having some that students could use as a class would be good. IPads are way too expensive to buy for the whole middle school. I do think that we should have newer computers and newer software for them and maybe they could check out iPads and laptops depending on how the students handle them

Subject: iPads for little kids?

Hi. Um, no do not give little kids iPads. I highly encourage advanced technology to older kids.. maybe starting with 6th grade? You could buy laptops or something and have the middle schoolers check them out for homework and research. I love technology but I don't think giving it to little ones is a good idea. Please hear us out. They will grow up dependent on technology and that's not a good thing. Thanks for setting this website up.

Subject: ischool

I don't think this would be a good idea, elementary school kids having ipads is not a good idea. I would rather see newer computers with current software throughout the school but each of us, the students, don't need our own devices. Being able to checkout a device with all the special software on it might be nice for special projects.
